CodeReady.org is an all-hazards emergency preparedness campaign that was "branded" to enhance retention of personal preparedness information and prompt individual action. The State of Minnesota appropriated funds specifically for a pandemic preparedness campaign; however, the campaign steering committee and advisory group opted to employ a broader emergency preparedness approach. The Minnesota health department is not alone in using pandemic preparedness funds to encourage general preparedness, although it's important to note their direction and rationale. A general disaster preparedness campaign may be more viable as media coverage around pandemic influenza rises and falls. Additionally, a campaign around enhancing general personal preparedness may build resiliency for a wide range of disasters, while not detracting from pandemic preparedness. It should be noted that the campaign web site contains very little information on pandemic influenza; the site includes a link to the state avian and pandemic influenza web sites but does not discuss pandemic influenza or related community mitigation strategies at great length.
