Source Agency:
Minnesota established the first influenza triage phone line in the country to operate statewide and prescribe antivirals to callers who qualify for pharmaceutical treatment. The hotline is intended only for callers with symptoms of influenza, and callers are either directed to a staff nurse or to a triage line operated by their healthcare provider. Callers can be prescribed antivirals or told to seek evaluation in a hospital if their illness warrants medical treatment.
The phone line is a public-private partnership involving the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Hospital Association, the Minnesota Council of Health Plans, healthcare providers, local health departments, and the Children's Physician Network.
